Besides, back then we didn't have any gear that would fit this shallow seam.  Ted Cais revisiting the layback in 1968 after first soloing (hence the name) this section on Christmas day, 1967.  The complete ascent was made the next day with Dennis Stocks (not in 1969 as recorded by guidebooks).
